Whats it worth???

Hi there
Thinking of selling my mk1 again purely just to raise me some funds??? But have no idea on value??? I know a car is only worth what someones prepared to pay and not going to sell her for say 3k (like the 2.5k offer I had before as I thought that was a tad insulting!!!!!) as theres no point I would rather keep it.

If you didn't see it it was cover car in sept 06 Golf+ and since then been changed a little. It's running a completely rebuilt 16v, bored out, weber throttle bodies and standalone management, completely bare metal respray, KW coilovers, Audi brakes, completely rebuilt new bolts nuts, lines everywhere etc.
Now has a new interior front and rear seats (yes rear!!!) out of a 944 turbo all fully retrimmed in Vinyl(looks just like leather) and alcantara centres, with matching door cards and shelf etc etc

(Facebook link now removed)

Any advice would be helpful I have no idea

Its impossible to say, for such a modified car. All you can go on is similar modified cars which have recently sold, but I can't think of one. Dubboy's white car was sufficiently different, you can't really compare the two.

I just wanted to look at it!

Nice car!

As far as value, I think the only way to work it out is to work out how much its cost you to build. You never get your money back on modified cars as a freind of mine can testify after building countless rally mk1 & mk2 escorts, talbot sunbeams, fiat 600's…

But you should get a decent price for something as nice as that

SteveyJ, is the car for sale or not? If so, I'll move it to the relevant section.

Paul, didn't start this as a for sale thread, all I asked was if anyone knew what it might be worth, as I am THINKING of selling, car is not up for grabs yet!

As for your comments guys thanks very much, I am so proud of the car, and 'andy1982' don't really want to sell but think it will have to go to pay for the new bus

you are answering your own question.

this type of question is asked pruely on a greed basis. you must know roughly how much you want for her. if you have no idea what she's worth, why were you insulted with a ?2,500 offer? won't sell for any less than ?3,000? that dictates that you do have some kind of value for her.
why not put her in the for sale section with a price you will be happy to reviece for her? i can't think of a reason not to do that.?
just because a car has been in/on a magazine, does not increase it's value. it's worth what it's worth.

lovely car. good luck with the sale.

It's not on a greed basis at all! There must be other people on here who may have sold a car with sort of similar spec or a modifeied 20vT etc. Maybe there input to the origianl question maybe more helpful!! As all have seen in ads is Genuine original examples, not tuned or modified!!

The reason why I was insulted by the 2.5k offer is because throttle bodies, ecu loom and all the other kit to make the bodies fit to the engine cost near on 2k for the parts alone, so if someone who was buying the car knew what they were looking at won't of put in an insulting offer surely.

And obviously I know the mag won't increase it's value, I was just chuffed to get it in the mag, as not really into the scene and don't go to the water cooled shows. Just stated that at beginging to describe the car as that says whats been done to it.

i offered ?3000.99 and he's declined the offer

i think it is more then likely worth somewhere between ?3250 and ?4000.

i dont think anything other than a concourse campaign will fetch more tbh, unless people are willing to pay scene tax as i've seen recently on a few modded mk 1's.

the main thing is you tend to never recoup the money you spend on modifying the car, its basically burnt in a different way   .

if you think you have done everything you've wanted to do to the golf and its time to move on then do it, if aircooled is the way forward for you get a spec list made up with some good pictures and all original information about the car and who knows, the sale might just be around the corner :dontknow:

That's basically the main factor here. The mods aren't cheap ones - throttle bodies cost a lot of money, for example. If I were to modify a car to that extent (I have a 2.0 16V too) I'd do the work then keep it for 4-5 years to gradually wear out all the new parts I'd fitted, and of course reap the benefits of it. Or even - dare I say it - its worth more in bits than together? Its obviously worth more to you than its current sale price, I think, in which case I'd be looking at keeping it a while longer.

or selling to me :)

i think splitting cars can go horribly wrong to in a way.

taking of key features of the car, generally the bits that cost the most ends up where once youve got your ?2000 back from the management and bodies and engine bits etc.. you left with a clean mk 1 gti, you can get good clean repainted shells for ?2000.. your call then falls into this bracket with nothing really making it stand out..

you also have all the hassle off taking off the bits etc and finding the standerd parts and fitting them etc….

its a lose lose situation selling cars tbh.

look at me for another example.

i have just sold my corsa C turbo (which is on the cover of total vauxhall from the 18th january) for ?6500, i had spent ?14,000 on it including the car and i've only had that since january.

can post pics if anyone is interested in the car…lol

im now looking for a mk 1 as i felt it was time for a change, i've lost ?7500 but im not realy bothered as i enjoyed building the car and owning the car.

sometimes you've got to move on….if you've thought of selling, its obv the right thing to do 8)

Yeah I know what your saying and probably is worth more in parts, I'm just gonna have to have a think and either flog it when I think of a price or find somewhere else for it to live and tax it again for the summer days next year.

Cheers for the helpful comments, end post now  . . . . . . please. . . . . . . .  getting depressed! !!
Happy new year and to a new start

why ws the offer insulting? yes, throttle bodies and management are not cheap but this is the buy and sell business. if you fish for offers, then you must surely expect 'offers'. no? if your car was mint and original then it's a bit easier to gauge a value and more likely to attract a larger volume of potential buyers. it's not. therefore, you have a reduced buyer basis and a value that can only be determined by two people. buyer and/or seller.
this is what i mean. if you think ?2,500 is insulting, then what do you consider to be 'not insulting'? won't sell for less than ?3,000 and have had an offer of ?3,099. turned it down. why? you think it's worth more. fine, put your own value on it and it will either sell or not.
i personally think, when you are looking for ?4000 upwards, the more modified, the harder it is to find a buyer. the hi yah booosa mk1 van is a good(bad) example, if a little evtreme, of this.
