What to Try Next?

Havent been on here in absolute ages and here I am with a problem.  :banghead:

The Golf was coming out of hibernation last Sunday complete with new battery and 6 months tax. Anyway it didnt start.  Knew I shouldnt have bought the tax.   OH declared that it needed a new starter so off I went and bought one. Seems thats not the problem either.

When I turn the key nothing happens.  Any idea what to try next?

Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.  :D

Could be a possible fault with ignition switch and there is also a connector right at the bottom of the steering colum which leads from the ignition switch, had this problem a while ago and you would get absolutely nothing when turning the key.

Could be a problem in the ignition barrel - maybe the switch or something. If it's not even trying to turn, it sounds electrical. I'm no mechanic and I'm sure somebody will correct me, but that's where I'd start. I've had problems with the ignition switch myself in the past.

Yeah start with the most common falut 1st and work from there. If thats not the problem rubyjonny is a wealth of info and should be able to point you in the right direction.

Cant quite believe it.  The new battery I bought had need charged.  :banghead:  OH stuck it in today and fiddled with some fuses and its up and running. The new starter has made an amazing difference too as it had been quite lazy last year.

Thanks again guys for your help.  :D
