My 1.3 gets 30mpg, if I'm careful!

Careful being 56mph behind a 40-tonner along the A38 - 21mpg is probably a bit low though 8O

Have no idea, when my mk1 was on the road i got 200 miles per tank with a 1.8 kr engine! ouch
Give it a service, plugs, cap and leads. Points and condenser If its carb (think it is) and get it all set up and go from there

Sounds a bit low to me mate. Give it a good service and that'll hopefully do the trick. Not sure what effect the exhaust would have on the MPG though?

run some redex through a couple of tankfulls then
flush the oil and radiator.

do a really thorough engine service with decent parts and get timing and mixture (if carbs) all checked.

also check tyre pressures.

red-exed on the last 2 tanks, engine and rad already been flushed pal, but doing it again will do no harm i guess. Need to find someone or somewhere that has a timing gun to check timing and a garage for co2 probe!

Thanks for all the advice guys

I get around 340 miles out of a full tank which works out at roughly 34 MPG in my GTI. And thats driving to and from work everyday, 45 mile round trip. And on a recent trip down to Maidstone and back I got 410 miles out of it, 41 MPG!
