What series GTI do I have?

Still new to which year produced what motor.

It's a Black 83 GTI what ways can I tell if it's a series 1 or 2

I feel very stupid ops:

Series 2

back lights is the most obvious feature, if they are the big ones..series 2 if small like cabriolet, series 1

as long as the car hasnt been "retro`d"

Also if it has an MFA, it will be a series 2 GTI, if not then it could be an early 1.6GTI series 2, or if it has the round clocks and a two gauge centre console and 1.6 engine then its a Series 1.

Thanks it's deffo a series 2 then.

Apart from the rear lights was the any structual difference between the 1-2

my '82 big light 1600 don't have an mfa
