What's the best tool in your box ?

I serviced the Mrs cabby at the weekend, it needed a new rocker cover gasket and I decided to go for one of the updated rubber jobbies that comes with new studs.

I put two nuts on the stud and locked them together tightly and then tried to undo the stud with the bottom nut, unfortunately they just turned together and the stud would not budge - was beginning to wish I had just gone for a cork gasket when I remembered buried in my toolbox was my trusty Impact driver !!!

Lined the flats of the locked nuts up with each other put a 10mm socket over them, attached the impact driver, hit with hammer and jobs a good un !!
Every one of them came undone without any bother using this magical tool.

Everyone should have this tool in their box !!!

A few tools have surprised me:-

Sturdy long hollow tube for hard to remove bolts (more leverage).. used it loads and it was free
Best thing we own though is a vice with a brake making attachment.. saved us a fortune over the years.

i agree with you there brillant tool but my best tool has got to be my compresser got 101 uses    

Cheap (5 squid) half length combination spanners for those awkward and hard to reach nuts, also cheap combi spanners preferably imperial for whacking on rounded off nuts to get the buggers off whilst saving my best stuff for the easy jobs

have recently bought some ratchet spanners made life so much quicker and good for some awkward bolts where you struggle with gettin spanner on and off all the time.
Also i like my makita lithium ion battery impact driver makes light work of tight screws and bolts

i'm jealous of your impact driver  :x  tis on my christmas wish list.

was used daily when i was a carpenter. Don't need for new job now but still a very useful alround tool for anything tight. Only downfall is that because of the hammer action it tends to snap screwdriver bits so would recommend that you buy decent ones from the start and not bother with cheap bits

my best tool is my brother …. hes a mechanic, mot tester and hes very very cheap…… so cheap hes free

I /we call it the pussy bar lol,  every tool is needed but this is a good one

oh welder. weld on nuts to rounded ones ect.  and can bodge perfic tools if needed

best tool ever has got to be the BIG flat screwdriver, 1,000,001 uses.

My telescopic magnet has saved my bacon sooooo many times.

I'd be with you on that until mine came apart in the bell-housing of the gearbox… had to take the gearbox off to remove the nut and end of the telescopic magnet…   …..

ez bleed pressure brake bleeding kit was a godsend.

Manual bleeding on my own using a valve system = 3 hour's work and resultant braking like holding 2 washing up sponges either side of a biscuit tin lid with your thumb and little finger.

Bleeding on my own using pressure bleed kit from spare tyre = 30 mins from first wheel off to driving around again and braking like hitting a wall. Winnah!

Can't recall if I got it from there but it's certainly the kit. Took a little tinkering (and alot of rag  ops to get the pressure right initially but once it was all set up it bled an individual line in 15, maybe 20 seconds?
