What's it worth? '83 GX - slightly broken...

Need to start selling my cars as I have to move soon - and I don't know whether to fix this or just let it go?

What do you think it is worth - as it is, and if I fixed with 12 months ticket?

1983 Golf GX - 1.5l
99k miles

Interior in mint condition
Folder full of service history
Brand new (less than 100 miles) plugs, leads, dizzy cap & rotor arm.
Automatic chokes works perfectly!
I have just removed all of the wheel arch covers and treated\removed the surface rust that is inevitibly lurking there. Other than a small amount of rust on the rear valance, totally solid rust free car. No rust around windscreen, scuttle, spare wheel well, suspension strut tops etc.
It was waxoiled many years back which has helped a lot.
All the chrome etc as it should be
Recently had a full service and was running 100%
A very original car

Bad points

MOT & Tax expire any day now.
Suspected head gasket gone - car has not overheated, but will not idle and smoke is coming from around the back of the head\manifold. No mixing of oil and water though so could be something else? Have done a compression test and there was only a very slight variance on one cylinder (less than 10psi)
Will need the osf wheel bearing doing for the mot (part in the boot ready for fitting!)

What do you think it is worth? ?350?

I bought mine without out tax and a new MOT, pretty much like yours but with some tatty paint and a few rust spots for ?320.

If you are selling it as repairs them you need to remember that you'll basically be selling not much more than a 5 door shell.

As tidy as it may be body wise it won't be worth all that much.

You might be able to get ?350 with the engine sorted, you might not. You may get more. :dontknow:

Realistically, ?50-150 as is. If you were to fix it and have 12 months MoT, then between ?350 and ?500. At the moment, its worth more in parts than as a whole car. The chrome grill is probably ?50-60, various other little bits of trim and engine ancillaries, maybe ?200-300 given enough time to sell them, then weigh in the shell at ?80-100.
