What do I do about seats?
Are these seats worth buying or should I carry on looking and spend some more for VAG items |

Buy them, I think they're nice and it doesn't matter if they're not VAG | [19 votes] |
Avoid them, they're probably rubbish anyway, keep looking for proper VAG seats | [7 votes] |

What do I do about seats?
I've had enough of my drivers seat in my car. It's small, coming apart and moves around all over the place. I've been looking for some Mk2 seats but can't find any in any better condition to my own and don't really like the 'rainbow' pattern anyway. I'm sick of looking through ebay auctions and was just outbid on a nice Corrado interior. So, I was wondering what people though of after market solutions. I saw these that come with Mk1 sub frames ready to slot in and at ?225 delivered that's not bad. Yes I know you get what you pay for and that they're not in keeping and I did want to find a VAG solution but are these so bad?

spoze they'd look ok. think the thing with mk1s is that less is more so the more subtle the better.

As you have already said they are not VAG so that may put some people off when you come to sell your car.
I too have been looking through ebay etc for a good original drivers seat and most are just as bad as mine or if they are better its only by a bit.. and the price for the better ones are stupid!
If you cant afford to buy a decent set of VAG seats and your not concerned with originality then just get what you want and can afford.

Why not get a decent passenger seat & 'convert' it into a drivers one?
:dontknow:
My drivers seat was knacker so thats what I ended up doing.

I say buy them, they look good enough for you will need them for, ie to sit on!!! and why pay stoopid money for Recaros or simmilar and muck about with subframes etc when you dont really need them?
its vw snobbery! why most people have them! people ask too much money for all second hand vw seats in my opinion, and they are never usually in very good condition in my experience, just everyone fights over them so it increases the price.
But then thats easy for me to say coz i already got some

Thanks for the replys and the votes.
I'd like to get a passenger seat to replace the drivers but the pattern is unusual as it's light grey and the chances of finding another one ready to be installed are slim, it's a good idea though.
TOTR, I'm inclined to agree, I don't need anything fancy and certainly don't want to spend half the cash on a subframe, that's just daft! I've asked for more info on them so, I'll see how I go answer depending. I can always buy them and stick the original seats in the loft.
Keep the opinions coming!

Thanks for keeping an eye out. I have to say ?400 is optimistic though and with a trip to South Wales thrown in too, I could spend ?700 and get a re-trim in new leather.

For what it will cost you a decent trimmer will be able to re-build your bolsters, re-pack the seats and usually patch in any damaged areas with a decent matching upholstery.
Or you could try Bernard Newbury, he did a MK1 interior for me a couple of years ago and it was that nice it brought a tear to my eye! Used original cloth too.
Keep it original!! Just make it go faster!!

had these type of seats in mine but felt they didnt look right , made my own sub frames welded to car now took out and scraped see what you think?
the VW badges where off ebay and stuck on with fabric glue just give it that bit extra
now have mk2 seats in wanted to look more originalish

A5OPY, I think you've closed the subject. They do look good at first but I've come back from the gym and had a good long hard look at them and decided that although they would solve a lot of problems, they just don't do it for me and I'd end up like you just regretting it.
I'll keep looking for seats that are if not original Mk1 at least 'normal' seats from a road car and not race inspired! Don't get me wrong, they would look great with a roll cage and harnesses etc so they were the whole hog, but just dropped into a otherwise pretty standard car they sick out like two mistakes.
Thanks guys for all the replies and votes I'll just keep looking.
