just seem to find fault after fault at the minute having just bought it

I did with mine when i first got her, but start with all the carb replacements posts in the help sections & you will sort it i promise

Rear beam is bloody bent!! giving all sorts off wierd handling 8O

same here.  found out my brand new dizzy cap is either the wrong unit or has been fitted incorrectly.

god knows what else

i didn't break anything

as there it nothing left to break!!!!!!!!

front splitter bit the dust other day

and my full beams + spotlights just ceased working, got dipped though… I just LOVE doing electrics too!…  

not driven it much until today but was welcomed by stuff breaking on me :

gearlinkage hitch pins broken, speaker wire to the rescue  
glass holder on window winder busted off, window left open (whilst raining)  
exhaust rubbers
seat back rest lifter upper handle thingy  :dontknow:
jubilee clip on fuel hose
exhaust clamp
pin on clocks to adjust time
and the starter motor and water pump need doing

you gotta love your mk1

oh and this happened 2 weeks ago…

9a 16v + old old old old crunchy gearbox =

diff housing, 4 nice 50p size holes, job's a goodun!

oh and 1 week ago, the starter died, and a fuel feed hose popped.

I don't think there's much more to replace now though until the cycle starts again.

currently at the local a&e having my dressings changed again

Not today but yesterday evening was on way to see brother in Cheshire via Cat & Fiddle route. Stormed up Woodhead pass overtaking a column of traffic. A Mondeo 2.2 TDCI and BMW 320D steamed pass me, modern Diesel eh… but thats another story.

Near Glossop there was a knocking sound when turning. Stopped and checked everything, nothing loose but when jacked up and wheel spun there was a grating sound that seemed to come the gearbox 8O  :dontknow:

Decided to limp the 10+ miles back home and got there OK but knocking sound continued with duff CV joint type symtoms.

This afternoon jacked car up each side and spun wheels with steering turned each way, wheels spin freely with no knocking or funny sounds or roughness? Drive shafts appear undamaged and when tugged at aren't loose? Anyone any ideas?

For MOT other week replaced discs and pads and rear anti-roll clamp. Old cars eh.

I'm too scared to find out what the clanging noise is when I turn right, but luckily, the noise from the fuel pump covers it most of the time.

Throttle cable decided to ping its retaining clip on the motorway so had to crimp a spade connector on the end to get home.

poked the rust around the sunroof only to find it looks terminal and has gone all the way through - time to go see a welder  

took the horrible side trims off to see about filling the holes an broke 4 clips removing them, looks like its trims off for a while. if i remove the plastic clips to reveal the holes will this speed up the rot of he car as its letting water in the holes???  

Earlier this week I figured my intermittant accelerator problem to a knackered throttle body, ?180 for a new one 8O .

just went back to the garage, brakes still getting a build up of pressure and no play in the pedal - sticking on already had the discs and pads changed and also the brake hoses replaced to try and cure this…. next stop master cylinder?                      

Having problems with car losing power and dying.

Have bought a new ignition lead set as i thought this is good start and very likely although could be dodgy coil.
Who knows what it is?
