VW repairs

ok, in preparation for roadtrippin' put black mamba into VW for new fanbelt, air filter, and timing belt.  Turns out there's an oil leak and oil is getting into time belt, a problem that must be resolved….

Anyone know roughly what I should be paying for all of that??

I would hazard a guess it's the rocker cover gasket which is simple/cheap to fix but they need to elaborate with you.

It's probably worth having a look at it yourself.

I also think it'll be the rocker cover gasket, but it'd cost you ?50 for them to look at it, or ?10 for you to look at it AND fix it.

i appreciate what you're all saying.  And I am all for getting a haynes manual and learning how to do things.  One of my dad's friends has been a vw mechanic for 25 years and while looking over the car he told me to fit the air filter and fanbelt myself, but that the timing belt is not something I should do on my own.

I figured therefore, seen as I'm planning a EuroRoadTrip, and was going to get the timing belt done, I'd just have VW fit it all for me and make sure it's all alright (and under warranty).

I do have some small things to fix myself before I go, like my new german plates! and a wee oil pipe thing that has broken. oh and some rear lights from tatty.

Also, I'm looking for a haynes so I can take out the front seats to do more thorough valeting.

Very straight forward…..

1.Remove the plastic seat runner covers located on the inner runner of each seat. Gently pull/lever each one up and then withdraw rearwards.
2.Undo the stopper bolt and nut at the lower front of each seat.
3.Slide the seat backwards until it's clear of the runners, then just lift it out.
