the lower the et the further the wheel will sit out!
so et 38 nromal on gti change to 33 et will sit out 5mm further very miner change so its ok.
but if it was say et10 then the wheel would sit 28mm further out that the orignal et.

what if its et50 with spacers?

my d90s have an et of 53 or 52.7 or something. ran a 5 mm spacer on the rear. looked sweet. fronts poked out a tiny bit but still looked cool.
i've taken them off now for some 15" bbs mahles with an et of 13! they poke out lots but look amazing in my opinion :)

do uou mean adaptors rahter than spacers?

et50mm
spacer size 20mm
therefore: final et when wheel fitted will be 30.
if you dropped the size of the adaptor to 15mm then the et will be 35.
you basically minus the adaptor or spacer size from the et.

i am currently running d90's which have an et of 52.7mm
i run 20mm adaptors so the offset is
32.7mm and i am running 8j wide rears and no rubbing! its all down to perfecting the et!

Just been reading at the above posts.

I think i have a problem regarding the wheel spacing on my mk1. On the Right Rear i can here rubbing as soon as i drive the car. As i bought the car in this condition i assumed it was the braking drum. However i fear the koni spring is rubbing on my 15" Yokohamas

Sorry to be a noob, but where can i find the ET number, is the on the alloy wheel itself?

Also i have noticed on full lock my front wheels rubs against the arches, but they have wheel spacers on them. One is around 3mm while the other is 10mm :/

If anyone could put me straight, would really appreciate it :)

Et will be on the alloy itself bud.
You will find rubbing especially if you are fitting bigger alloys as these these cars take 15 just right any bigger you will notice alot more rubbing.
I've got 16's on at the min and with the coilies wound down can rub a fair old whack

Ok just checked the wheels today and they are ET49 all around.

Think im going to have to buy some 15-20mm spacers for the back. Suspension spring feels really close if not rubbing the wheel already.

For The Fronts, im unsure why there would be spacers on, surely if i take them off there is a less chance of rubbing on the arches?

Cheers
Gary

Because et 49 would rub on the strut without a spacer i would think.
