viewed a mk1 golf... whats it worth?
hi, been on the look out for mk1 golf, went to see a 1983 gti in black.
132k on the clock, clean interior, all dials inc mfa work. body work is good, had respray at some point, has rust on tailgate-needs a new one really, sills are good, flakey rust near exhaust where lower valance meets pass side quarter, filler nack is just getting surface rust will replace as precaution. all othe rmk1 checks were ok. apart from that the engine is good and pulls well. gears slot in nice and easy too.
the guy has no history prior to the 3 years him and the previous owner have owned it. so no previous mots nothing.
he wanted ?1500 for it, i walked, but left him my number, his called back so what do you think its worth from what i have described, i know its a tough one but input would be appreciated!

sunroof? t&t?
I dont think its a million miles away on price unless it got a glass sunroof and very short t&t - if it needs a tailgate then I'd say you really need to be knocking ?150 off it to buy and get painted/fitted

ok, it had no mot when i saw it but his going to have that by next week, i would only buy with an mot as it has near to none history.
there is no tax
it has a metal sunroof which is rusting badly and needs to be replaced too.
i forgot to mention that there is rust on both sides below the rear quarter glass where the glass meets the body, its not in the corners but at the centre.

Sounds like a lot of work and expense. There are a lot of very good GTIs out there for a good price. Are you in need of one this summer, or can you wait until autumn/winter? They are a fair bit cheaper then.

A rusty sunroof panel isn't much of a problem but rust in the actual roof around it is a big problem. It's not easy to fix properly if it's gone to / nearly gone to holes. Wind it open and check the channels / drain holes at the front

kriss, its something that can wait i have a mk2 gti 16v thats running great at the moment and would be a shame to sell. however this one is a nice example dependant on the price.
m6m62, its just the sunroof not the roof itself, i have heard that mk2 ones fit too.
the areas of concern for mr are rust below the bumper near the exhaust on the seam and rust below the rear quarter glass on both sides!
so to put a figure on it?? …. ?1k?
