Never seen one myself mate I think most opt for the 20v as easier to get power from??

Don't believe the V5 really ever took off, it had a reputation for using oil and really not producing much in the way of bhp for its size.

Had a V5 beetle a few years ago and wasn't that impressed with the power really, obviously the MK1 would be a lot lighter!!

Done here, really cool build thread as well. If you bang VR5 swallowtail in to youtube there are some videos of it as well.

There was a build thread on a Northstar V8 in a Golf, but they widened the body and lengthened the frame a wee bit…
Reminds me of the differences in my Brothers Rover 2000TC and my Rover 3500 S…. 4cyl, Vrs V8…lololol to quote M C Hammer. "Can't Touch this…"
Almost bought a MGB GT with the 215 V8 in it….Wanted too much for it…the engine had issues.. But I remember reading a article in Road and Track the last few lines said…"Given Wings, it would fly."

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?
They all start with GOOD Grounds.
Where are my DIY Links?

There was a real sweet white V5 Mk1 on ebay a couple of years back but IMHO one of the worst VW engines ever made.
There is 2 versions.
Pre 2000 150bhp
Post 2000 170bhp
I had a 2002 Mk4 mapped to 188bhp, it had no torque at all, was absolutely terrible on fuel and I got my ass handed to me by a bog standard 130PD TDI.
Sounded nice though.
That said I have a pal who loves them, he has 3 Mk4 V5s and is currently in the process of supercharging one of them, personally I think he is wasting his time and money because it'll still have less power than a standard 2.8 4motion which you can get for 1500 bats all day long

Horrendous engines. Underpowered yet thirsty, and riddled with issues.
Owned a v5 for less than 3 weeks before I literally gave it away to someone.
Hateful things.
