trying to fit new wheels to an early mk1
hi i was wondering if anyone can help? i have a 1980 mk1 golf with the small rear lights, its a 1.1 4 speed and ive tried fitting 13x7 starmags and 13x8 ats classics, eventually want to fit banded steels but the starmags and classics wont clear the front brake carriers, can you tell me what offset i need to clear them and some wheels that might fit? cheers dan :x

Brake clearance issues are usually down to the design of the back of the wheel face/spokes, rather than offset.

You could fit spacers to the front or grind the carriers down a bit until they clear. I ground them down since spacers would make the wheels poke.
