too many breaking

why are so many people breaking perfectly restorable cars  :dontknow: i know there lured into by the ????? but it seems to be getting worse .

there needs to be some education me thinks .if youve got a car that is repairable please offer it to a good home first .

take a look in the parts for sale and you will see what i mean ,there are people on here crying out for a good base car for a restoration .

sorry if it sounds like a rant just annoys me ,nearly as much as the looming smoking ban gggrrrrrrrrrrrr! :x

Well spoken PPC. We have got to try and keep these Mk1,s on the road. Surely most people even if their Mk1 is surplus to requirements would like to see it go to a happy home :D.You often see in the wanted forum GTI wanted or small engined MK1 wanted, the later ideal for the young driver who needs a low insurance bracket car.Even if you think it has gone beyond repair for yourself someone else might be able to get it sorted .So come on guys and girls if you don't want it put the whole car in the cars for sale on this site and give someone else some pleasure of owning a Mk1           Baller :D

Mk1's need to be on the road, not in little bits on E-bay :(

Some are beyond help which is fair enough. But a hell of a lot are reduced down for a quick few quid

Got to play devils advocate here and say why don't you go buy one that someone is considering breaking and keep it whole instead?

I, for one, don't particularly like seeing repairable or slighty untidy cars being broken.

That being said, I need a n/s wing and a rear door for my mk1 and I'm pretty sure they'll come from a broken up car.

Plus if we didn't have cars being broken for spares then we'd all be complaining about lack of parts and prices thereof.

I refuse cars every day that people want to get rid of as a breaker.  If they are good enough I'll keep them and not break them - but it is really hard to find a buyer.

The cars I break are not viable restoration projects in the main.

Buuut - I cut up a '83 4 door shell recently - not much rot but when I got it it had been sripped of a load of parts - The shell alone provided metal for 6 MK1's - so gotta be worth it.

I think that the bad thing is when a restorable car is stripped of the good bits and the rest junked!

I'm scrapping mine, I bought it with every intention of restoring it, I've got 3k sitting to restore a nice early w reg gti but when I picked up the afore mentioned car, I pulled off all the relevant panels just to be greeted with rust upon rust upon rust and to add to that…..It partually caught fire as it was sitting next to a portacabin in my bro's work. :banghead:

Just wasn't viable to repair, The parts are going to keep other gti's on the road so I've no regrets :dontknow:

any one got a spare farm building for storage of mk1's

start up a fund for all the mk1's that can be found ,buy em up and sell to enthusiasts rather than letting  'The Vultures' have there way .

mk1

I just got back from Germany,my mate had a 40k ml mk1 GL 2dr,it was an old boys from new and my mate got it with about 20k on it,he couldnt afford to run it about 3yrs ago so my other mate had it stored in his barn, when i was there last week he said he needed rid of it as it was gonna get scrapped,so i pulled it to bits for myself to take home, shame to scrap the whole thing, infact it almost brought a tear to my eye coz it was mint condition.

there does come a time when enough is enough and to repair would be suicide.

there was a golf 'for breaking' in the for sale section and looked in better nick than mine ,thats craziness.

as for breaking your golf 'YOU ARE FORGIVEN'    :)
