to decal or not to decal?

i currently own a black mk1 gti,
i know a lot of the red, silver and white gti's had the matt black rear tailgate decals around the window but did the black models??
im considering putting one on mine but would like some other opinions and possibly even photos if anyone has done theirs

Black and blue didn't have the tailgate surround. If it has black side stripes then it has the black tailgate surround. If it has silver side stripes then it doesn't

i have owned a few golfs and most of them had one,
at the moment the back end of my black one looks slightly dare i say it

is it wise to put black side strips on a black car? you wont see them :/

Mine will be black when its done and I'm putting the rear black decal on, I think it will look good the matt/satin against the shiny new paint.

my old tin top had black strips on a black car, that was as it rolled out the factory!

What were the original tailgate decals like? Were they the 4 piece sets like the after market ones you see??
I'm tempted to get it painted after mine goes in for a spray… what's the thoughts?

My mate still ownes his black mk1 golf gti campaign he bough from new....it never came with the rear decal....
