Hadn't thought of it either, but it's a fair point - had a tax disc nicked off a motorbike a few years back. However, the DVLA will send you a replacement in exchange for about ?7 so you don't have to pay the full fee again.

I never thought about that one either. To be honest I leave my hood down a lot and no one's ever taken anything out the car. I think it's just common sense - if there's people around and it's the middle of the day, then probably no one will touch it. if someone really wants to steal something from your cabby they can with the roof up or down. i wouldn't worry about it. personally i'm more paranoid about getting my hood slashed.

You can buy a tax disc holder that if they try and nick the disc its rips it on removal, rendering it useless to anyone.Including yourself but its a good deterrant for them not to try in the first place.

I've got one of those that sticks to the windscreen and you have to unscrew the back with an allen key to get the disc out.
Great idea - trouble is it fell off the windscreen in the hot weather and is now propped at the back of the fascia.
TBH I've only ever had the vinyl stick on holders before, and never had a problem. I've always left the roof down wherever I am. Always leave my cds in the front console and usually have bits on the back seat - jackets and stuff - and never had anything nicked. Not even a car park ticket.
Never had anyone use it as a bin either - apart from making the mistake of leaving it parked under a tree with roof down - once!

I have got one that you seal your tax disc inbetween 2 pieces of sticky back plastic and stick it to the window, so the tax disc is completly covered and un-useable by anyone else, its dvla and police aproved...aparently...picked it up a my local car shop for ?1.50 the only thing is every time you get a new tax disc, you need a new holder, but i think its worth it
