stretching tyres, whats brands best?

I know this is quite a swore subject and don't really want to go into the arguments of should you / shouldn't you. Just purely wondered if there were brands of tyres that were better for stretching than others? cheers guys :)

depends really, bridgestones stretch well, as long as they don't have extra "rim protector" edges on them they should be ok?

Ask on the wheel whores forum, they're bound to know lol

would help if you had a wheel size and tyre size as we could all say potenzas and they only make nangkang.

yeah see what you mean funkstar, my wheels are 7j but getting 20mm spacers for the rear to push them out :) and looking at either 145/70R13's or 155/70R13's for tyres?

I guess wheel whores would be a good place to look haha

Sorry i have to reply, you are seriously considering putting a 145 on a 7 inch rim???

Bridgstone potenzas seem to look stretched even if they are the correct tyre size for the wheels you have..

Stretching tyres with high sidewalls doesnt look right imo. (although no stretched tyre looks 'right' as they shouldnt be stretched but you know what I mean) They need to be low pros

This thread is a bit weird the tyres are not designed to be streched so aking for a specifically good make to do so is a strange one for me.
I run streched tyres my self and they are bridgestone they aint ripped of the rim so i guess they are good i run a 155-65 on a 6.5j r15

165 55 Nankangs strech really well on 7x 13s, sidewall on 70 series would make it look like a bike tyre.

What doesn't kill me can only make me stronger.

Mk1 will be back.

To the guys with stretched tyres - how is your insurance affected? Did you notify them of the "mod" and how did it affect your premium?

good point paul i dono would insurance companies look at tht as a modification because well i guess it's going outside the stardard car design.

some trye shops make you sign to say they have no reponsablity and that they advise that the tyre is not suitable for the rims

so at that point i think the insurance wouldn't like it. is it legal or iilegal???

Yeah a lad i no whos got a lupo on stretched tyres got an advisory on his mot for stretched tyres with in brackets next to it (serious danger under heavy cornering).

IMHO Its definitely illegal - see other thread - except to say as a disclaimer, its never been tested in court to create a precedent. I was under the impression that an insurance company, by law, cannot insure against breaking the law. Eg if a company were to offer insurance against getting speeding fines, it would be unlawful.

i understand the whole stretch scene but it's a bit on the line!! legal or ilegal..!

has there been reported accidents involving stretched tyre? seems alot to risk :(

I think there are the odd accidents but a lot of them go unreported, and a lot of them are low speed collisions because the handing's so badly affected that they slide off the road and into a ditch without really getting the same speed up as say, a standard GTI on its standard wheels and tyres.
