are you ment to be able to press the tappet or is it ment to be stiff?

hey guys got a question before i start striping my engine. i kinda lost all the oil in my car from the oil filter housing…. so basicaly i have a kr engine and its tapping, i have taken the rocker cover off and if i get a screwdriver i can press some tappets down easy and others are stiff as hell… :( are they ment to be stiff or be able to be pressed when the cam isnt pushing the tappets? cheers guys :ocf_emoticons__BangHead:

If your tappet was locked solid you would snap the cam. I suspect the ones that won't depress are already under load from the cam lobe. Also if you run the engine out of oil it might take a while to shut the tappets up as they are hydraulic. You really need to run it up and get the oil nice and hot, also you might of damaged the engine anyway. Could be the bottom end tapping!

cheers for the reply i have ran the engine for a good 5 mins but not till it was hot as i didnt want to do no further damage. im pretty sure the ones that wont depress are not under load but i will turn the cam round and see if there is any difference.
engine runs and sounds fine so im sure its not the valve and i did use some shity oil and abit of sludge went in there so not to sure if that might of blocked some up.
i drained the oil put new oil in there. i will run the engine till warm but was thinking maybe i should take them out and clean them….
also oil pressure is fine. cheers :) doesnt sound like the bottom end either lol ah well

I'd just run it up and get it nice and warm, I assume you have good oil pressure and you haven't blocked the pickup pipe with the cruddy oil?
