SS Exhausts.

After getting a custom stainless made for the cabby.

Im interested to see who's got them, and what they look like.

If you could please post pictures with size of bore that would be great.

Thanks
Nathan

I asked a similar question a while back when I was on the look out for a stainless system for my tin-top. I guess your only really interested in the tailpipe, as the bore of the main system is dependent on your manifold.

Here's an old tailpipe thread

I think a round 2.5 to 2.75inch diameter single tailpipe is best, either straight cut, or with an outward rolled lip. Just depends how subtle you want the difference to be if your forking out lots of ??.

Where are you going for it doing? I had a Powerflow system on my old corrado and that was excellent and cost about ?300 from the manifold back with 2 silencers. There's a guy (Phil-J) over on retro-rides forum who is making custom s/s systems at a fair price too.

ive got full s/s (manifold back) on mine with a horrible 4" back box, but thats how it came.

i'll be changin the box for a carbon fibre race box off an R1.

i think s/s is the best way, may be pricey at first but a std exhaust can be around ?150+, so whay not double it and get 5yrs+ out of it.

Powerflow ones come with a lifetime of ownership guarantee, ie guaranteed provided you remain the owner of the vehicle.

Jetex do a good exhaust for the mk1, 2inch to 4 inch pipe full stainless or part and ?180 for a full system.

Im having  custom made back box and leaving the rest alone, I have the option of about 10 different tailpipes.

Im looking at paying around ?150 as I know someone who knows someone, maybe get a group buy going and see if we can get the price down a bit if anyone interested?

i can recommend a company called longlife exhausts, they had to build me a stainless system after vw told me i was screwed. Comes with a lifetime guarantee and you can pick the tail pipe design from loads of different ones and theyll even give it a certain sound if you ask.

I have an Autocavan Powertorque S/S sport system on mine,i bought it in 92 from Autocavan cost ?169,still got the original invoice, and it sounds unique, nice and raspy and when you open it up it sounds like an F1 jet, with this sort of low wistle, cant really describe it any better than that, you would have to hear it.Had an early Jetex once and it rotted out in no time, they didn't do S/S then. 8)

If at first you dont succeed dont bother, its a vw thing
