THE CAR STARTS AND THE CLUTCH SEEMS FINE…BUT THE GEAR SELECTION HAS GONE….TOTALLY…PLEASE ME FELLOW MATEY'S,.. Hopefully it's nothing more than the linkages that have gone. As for chavs nicking stuff off it….unless you have flecked paint, flames up the side and lots of hideous sideskirts and spoilers the car should go un-noticed by them.

I do share your pain though. My cambelt snapped years ago and I abandoned my MK1 in the coned off 3rd lane of the M1. I had no breakdown cover so in the pouring rain on a black winters night I hitched to the nearest hotel to get rest and plan my receovery the next day. A very sleepless night followed but receovery was made adn the car was brought home. I got a stern telling off by the police for not advising them though.

Good luck in your recovery of the car

I've just renewed our AA cover for the coming year. Didn't use it at all last year but I still think it's the best 120 quid I spend each year. At least I always know we can get the baby home  :D

Feel for you. If I had to leave mine anywhere I'd be having a sleepless night I reckon  :tlc:

My AA cover will not cover my golf because it's older than 11 years but my footman james insurance policy gives me breakdown insurance. Istill dont like to leave it any where I spent aload on a respray and had the doors repaired where it had been screw drivered under the locks and took off the lock sheild because they look crap. If I'm not in it or can not see it then it's locked in the garage too many chav's out there like to break nice stuff

How come??  :dontknow:

I've had AA cover for ages and called them out for the Golf several times and never had a problem.

Mine's 23 years old.

It was a freebie through work for breakdown and repair cover that states car older than 10 years and 100,000 miles are not covered, dont know if they would recover though and just not repair the breakdown. Better to be safe than sorry and my other it was free for my MK1 with my insurance. :dontknow:

That makes sense

And definitely better to be safe than sorry! Like I said, paid mine and didn't use it once last year, worth it for the reassurance though.

Forgot to say…………When the blue one decided to stop selecting any gears (SP said it was like stirring rice pudding!  8O ) Sorting out the linkages solved the prob
