Settle an arguement
I've booked my cabby in for a tune and rolling road, my mate rekons as its 20yrs old it will only be putting around 60bhp at the wheels. Its a 1.8 GTi, standard engine, what figures do you rekon i should be looking at?? Surely its got to be more than 60 bhp??

i'd be tempted to say it may break the 100 mark, find they tend to get better with age as long as they're been looked after
but what do i know

if its getting a tune and on that milage i'd defo say 100+ at wheels
experience is, like a fine wine (eeek!!!) they get better with age especially when they're looked after
my bro's standard 1.8, regularly serviced with a k&n… didnt fair to bad against a 1.9 8v with all the mods (cam, TB, exhaust etc built by Tim Saunders of the phirm… pre-phirm days)… easily 120-125 maybe more
even he'll admit now that my bro's engine was tight as… and those engines get better with age lol

a good tune on rollers will always get the best results
have you had her serviced? (plugs, ht leads, dizzy cap, rotar arm etc etc) that'll always be the 1st suggestion from any tuner upperer so its always worth spending a couple of ??'s to make sure she's at her best 1st

coolage!
forgot to mention, throw your ear around the engine bay to listen out for any air leaks in your breathers, they can play havoc with your timing and mixture which is what a good tune is all about so just make sure they're all tight
also, give you injectors a little wiggle… if there's play then your seals have gone a lil brittle and lost thier seal… only a couple of penny each so they're usually worth doing, just be carefull pulling the injectors out as they can be snap happy (as rossirvine found out!) , just cut the old seals/'O' rings off and with a lil washing up liquid or light oil, the new ones will slip slide right on
as you can probably see… i want her hitting 100+bhp!!! LOL
