Service

I've had her for a couple of months now & as I don't know when the last service was carried out, I'm going to give her a service pretty soon.
I was wondering what you guy's thought was the best to use for the following:

1.  Oil
2.  Oil filter
3.  Spark plugs

cheers
Eck

Oil and plugs aren't too critical, but I've always gone for the geniune VW oil filter. Indeed, if the car is precious to you, you can go for the longlife filter from VW, which contains a finer filter element.

Cheers, didn't know they did long-life filters. I was going to use the vw synta 'silver' semi-synthetic stuff.

Don't forget to change the air and fuel filters also. And if you are really keen swap the gearbox oil for some 75/90 semi synth.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Do you know if there's a noticable difference using a k&n air filter over the standard one?

I doubt it without lots of other mods. Just service and maintain it properly to get the best out of it.

no

you can use it by all means
but its no where near as good as the forte stuff, ebays generally got some.  or try and find a local mechanics that use it. tis not available off the counter.
seriously, after my filler neck went and i changed everything, the last thing was the injectors, i was pretty sure that no MAJOR clogging had happened so tried some forte stuff, i could literally feel it working as the power came back. i use it regularly now, ie every 12k or 6months ish.

rebuild in progress....

Cheers Andrew, but I've already got an oil filter.  :y:
(if only you'd said earlier…    )

Just need the other parts now. Going to get some Synta (silver) Oil from Vw tomorrow morning.

That would be good, but I'm not 100% sure when I'll be doing it.
I was going to try & do the 'service' this saturday, as I have a small window of opportunity in the morning, but I've decided it would probably be best to get the passat cleaned & hoovered & up for sale as its been sitting about for a couple of months doing nowt.

Thinking about maybe doing the service on the Mk1 next friday, assuming I'm not too hungover from the Paris trip with the tartan army…. (we get back on thursday) :D

If your ever needing a hand with any job's you've got planned for your golf,  'pm' me or give me a call on the mobile
