Selling

Do cars sell on here (or elsewhere???)

I've seen a lot of cars for sale adverts on the forum where there are some quite serious issues with a car, accepting that its old (things like….car is great except there's no engine, etc). Or nice looking cars but in the £3000+ price bracket. I'd be interested to know from the sellers, in an honest fashion, whether they have trouble selling the car and actually have it for months and months, or whether their listed price is significantly discounted when it comes to actually selling and the transaction price is much lower, or whether there is indeed a healthy market out there.

I'm no wheeler dealer and I've had my fair share of good and bad luck buying cars. I've only ever sold one Mk1 on this website and the transaction went pretty well, but I'd be keen to hear from others. I appreciate that many people "sell up" and then leave a forum so it might be nobody can reply.

I sold my car very quickly about 2 months ago.  Little bit of negotiation on the price, but i really do think the car was priced well for what it was. I think some people have issues selling cars as they don't describe them honestly and when someone turns up to view they are presented with something that was different to their expectations.  Within 3 days i had no end of emails and arranged 3 viewings, but the first person brought the car.

I had my car on here for sale last year and sold it earlier this year.
I was not Advertising it anywhere else.
I was asking for £2,000. But the fact it was an Auto seemed to put people off.
I had done loads to the car too, but injury to my arm had meant that the Car was sat on the drive not being used.
A fellow Member on here, pointed the purchaser in my direction.
It was a shame to let it go, but it went for £1,800.
The Guy who bought it did 200 miles in  it the very same day and has sent me pictures of the Car when he went up to the lake district.
He is really pleased with the car and has become a paid Member too.
I had a few folks message me before, but they were unrealistic in what they were expecting.
My car was not a show winner, but it had new headliner, roof, new seat foam bases etc, bluetooth stereo, generally in good all round shape, get in and drive with 10monthe Tax and test. etc.
I explained what had been done to the car.
I explained that it was not a project car, but offers came in very low. I explained that if they want to spend so little they could only afford a project car, so my car was not for them. Wierdley they got offended.

At least it's now being used and not just sitting there.
When My arm is better I will be getting another.
Its like the old saying something is  worth somewhere in the middle, of what you are prepared to take and  what someone is prepared to pay.
I have seen examples here and on E bay for what I believe are well inflated prices.

I've sold and bought on here my first golf was for sale for a few months didn't rally want to sell only advertise on here describe honestly and sold for the asking price. The one I bought was was discribe honestly and the seller was open about the car. I've view so many dogs in the past were the seller has stated top car needs little work and asking top price £3000 plus. the worst one been advertise as fully refurb it was the worst paint job i've seen rust around the arches and the inside was damp with water in the foot wells seller stating the sun roof has just started to leak.

People need to describe them honestly and price them right

But that's the issue, in there own minds the condition is right and so is the price they choose.
Sometimes folks buy badly and want to recoup what they have spent and so value the car at cost plus what they have spent on it, failing to realise a car had a ceiling point somewhere.
I went to see a house the other week, it was described as needing some attention.
In reality the work that had been done was do poor that the whole lot had to be ripped out. Walls removed with no steels in place. I pointed this out to the agents whilst there, just a shrug of the shoulder. The seller actually believed his DIY was top notch, but he actually devalued the house.
The same can apply to cars.

Mate, I put mine up for sale on here alone, and I've had four people asking about it, probably just the right time for selling now :D

Cant imagine most sell because of the silly prices they are listed. for example theres a Clipper project for sale and the asking price is £1300, you can get a working Clipper on ebay for £600 - £1000 :|

Also i think you should have to upload pictures and follow the advert template or get your post deleted, too harsh ? who knows but thats what i think too many people join up just to post a silly 2 line advert for a 5 grand car
