Scrap Metal Price

Currently in negotiations for a mk1 but i think the owner is bluffing me saying he would get more money for scrapping the car for the steel. Any ideas what the price a scrappy would give for a mk1 in bad nick?

The seller was harking on about the increase price of steel these days although its gone down 10-15% in last 3 months.

I want to call him out on this bluff and sort it out!

To the best of my knowledge a scrappy would only give about £25 - £50 for a scrap car irrespective of what make it is. Unless the car is made from copper the seller is talking poo, prices of steel surely only matters to new steel not a rusty old car  :D

to be honest thats what i thought. The car wouldnt be good for spares cause the parts arent even original/in good condition. the metal wont weight that much considering the kerb weight of the car is 800kg. The metal isnt good condition.

I think we have a bluffer.

I just took £125 for a corsa B with the rear quarter missing… That's not too much of a heavy car.

I'd say he'd struggle for anything above £100 at the very most.

Thanks for the reply mate. I dont know much about the scrapping game. He said he got £186 for an audi 80 last week…

Im gonna try and play it cool and not get pushed around with these statements he pulling out the air.

To be fair to him, the prices are fairly high at the moment, if you go to the right yard, £186 for an audi 80 seems high, but not ridiculous…

Offer the bloke £200… I paid £300 for my Mk1, because it had a decent stereo and a set of P slots on it, otherwise I wouldve paid £200.

scrap metal is about £150 per tonne at the min so for a mk1 id say he would be looking at £120

Right now on the south coast of UK price is £140 per 1000kg of mixed scrap (a car would be in this category). But he'd have to take it there and tyres are -£3 each.
