Sad times.. How much is my wagon worth :(

1984 Golf GTI Campaign.

So I need help…. NO IDEA how much to ask for my campaign, I though £2500 but looking around they seem to go for a bit more then that, I haven't been keeping an eye on the MK1 market for the last year so has it gone up? Here's some info on the car and some pictures to follow, or find my tread search for "silver campaign project 2010" in the forum:

I have owned it for the last 3 years, I purchased it from a friend how also loved it to bits and I will probably regret selling it for the rest of my life. I am only selling because I have no time to use it due to a new 1967 porsche project I'm doing. The Golf has only done about 50 miles since the last MOT. been dry stored since the day I got it, only used during the summer months, always cared for and never abused.  Started after being sat for 6 months last week with no problems.

Money and time spent by me:
-TA stainless steal coilovers with less then 500 miles use (new front top mounts)
-Treated and under body sealing of the sills, inner & outer arches, suspension mount and other areas
-3 dial centre consul with working oil pressure (other dials need wiring still but work)
- 15" ATS Cup wheels with stretched and staggered tyres.
- Ipod ready head unit, JBL door speakers, Sony 6x9 on stealth shelf, sounds good but subtle looking.
- New alternator, HT leads, dizzy cap, spark plugs, K&N filter, rocker gasket, oil/filter change & battery in last 6 months. Ouch!

Spare parts and extras:
- Full set of G-MAX 40mm drop shocks and springs with minimal use, really nice ride.
-Original set of Mk1 Campaign P-slot wheels - usable but not mint.
-bonnet bra
-All red Hella rear lights (rare but a little tatty)
-new gear linkage kit
- loads of exterior trim parts
- loads of interior trim parts
- loads of engine, suspension, electrics and odds & sods collected over the years

Campaign numbers, green glass, 1.8 8V. It has all the correct Campaign chassis number and campaign extras (note: I had to take the leather off the original steering wheel as it was looking scruffy. The rear window doesn't have green tint as it the previous owner put a new boot on and didn't swap the glass over) correct interior, working MFA although I wouldn't trust it. It even has the original parcel shelf.

Normal problem areas:
- Spare wheel well - this has been replaced and is solid
- Bulk head throttle cable hole - all good and solid
- floors  - very good solid floor
- Sills - The sills on this car are really good, I was amazed how intact and solid they were inside when  we opened up the rear arch to weld a patch. The VW speacialist who did the last MOT also comment on the condition of the underside.
- Doors - all very good
- New front wings  - not  a spot of rust.
- suspension mounts - all solid (new top mounts on front)
- Reconditioned engine fitted by last owner, should go for ever.

Areas requiring LOVE:
-At some stage it's going to need rear arch repairs, I'm being honest here,  I could probably hide this fact as you can't see this area. The actual inner wells are solid, but under the arch trims there is some filler and it would eventually benefit from being done. That said you can't see any rust or crap, and it's not structural.
-The sunroof has rust on the inside section of the roof, it's not visible unless you open the sunroof. This is a really common problem with the metal sunroof version. It doesn't really bother me as I never use the S/R.  Never had it out in heavy rain so no idea if it leaks.
- Good tread left on ATS wheels  but slight curbing and small amount of surface corrosion on some areas - still look great.
- Gear stick linkage is worn but new kit supplied for free gear box all good with no crunches.
- Paint - the car looks good, resprayed about 4 years ago, not a top of the range bare metal job but presentable and shiny enough (but some people are anal and may be able to find some imperfections or oversprays)
- can be a little lumpy on cold idle, could benefit from a tune of the timing but nice and nippy.

This is wagon is nearly 30 years old, it's got it's problems but it's one of the better non- molested daily runners. It's a great looking MK1, It sounds good and it quite easy to drive for a classic, good on the motor way also and not that thirsty.

your thoughts on price please chaps!!!! :dontknow:

Here are some images, will try to add some later!:

If its a true campaign would say closer to 3,500:00 at a guess :-)

TBH I'm finding that unless the car is 100% original, being a campaign isn't that important these days. It's all about the condition. I have seen 1.3 cars go for way more than campaign, just because they were mint.

With the need for "some work" and the arches potentially needing "some work" I'd say £2500 mark is about right. Manly because new rear arches are gonna cost at least £400-£500 + Paint (I've just had a quote).

Other than that, it does look like a nice motor. If it was a little cheaper I'd have it off you :D

Just my 2p's worth

HI,

It's going on to ebay this week I think, I just don't have enough time to try to sell it normally.

It started on the button today after 6 months and I have dug out all the spare parts…lots and lots of them! I'll add some photo's soon.

It's got to be worth at least £2500 really, she's a good girl.

I really really really don't want to sell it at all, I love it:( but I can't have two classics on the go and the Porsche needs a whole world of love to get it on the road….but it will be a sweet wagon on the plus side.

call me if interested. I would rather sell it to a member then to some goon bag on ebay.

Cheers: 0787354233.
