Rusty front wings, Repoduction panel

Post

Hi all,
I have recently bought Lindsay Porters mk1 cabriolet which he built for the Haynes Golf restoration manual,

Here is a picture of the front wing, (it is the same with both sides) These were both replaced in the restoration of the car 12 years ago, The car has since done 31,000 miles,

Also the front panel is rusty, This was also replaced with a reproduction panel, The rest of the car is really solid, its just the new panels….

I am wondering if any one else has had a problem like this with repoduction panels? The book tells me they were bought from SVG ltd, I have googled them but have found nothing?

Look forward to some input,

Richard.

the black paint of repro panels is simply transport primer

if the rear of repro panel isn't painted then they will just rust from the inside out

if you are going to fit new panels, always paint the inside before your fit them to the car :)

That is the reply I wanted, Thanks for that, I did think I will paint my new panels on the backs with underseal before I fit them,
What amatures!, These are meant to be professionals, It was built by kingfisher customs and sprayed by volksmagic, to name and shame haha!

yeah i have to agree, there is nothing on them, the stickers are still there, i'd prime the inside then stonechip most of it! then once fitted stone chip it inplace, then wax oil then refit the arch liners providing its a 83 onwards.
they should last a while then.
just goes to show even the guys who you would expect better of cut corners!
