Roof Sticking

The roof on my cabby is manual and since it has been stood for a couple of years the roof tends to stick when we are trying to put it back up.  It seems to be on the left hand side, we can't see anything obvious that is catching and with a bit of brute force the roof will release and go back up.  However, I am worried about having to do this too often and breaking the roof.  :dontknow:

Does anybody have any suggestions of any lubricants I can put on the joints and folds that won't do any damage to the roof please?

Thanks in advance  :D

Hi,

first oil all the hinge points.

second if still persists disconnect the struts from the frame and see if its any better. The struts can go a bit funny and not operate properly, causing the sticking.

third, check the side tension cables are okay and not caught on anything.

Thanks for the advice Chortle and I think I will oil the hinge points anyway but I think I have just found the problem.  Inside the car on each side is a lever.  These never worked before so I used to just push the roof up but I have just discovered that they are now working  :redfaced:  :redfaced:

Ah ha,

to lock the roof in the down position you press the frame down on the drivers side first then the passenger side, you should hear it click and yep you push the release lever down to un lock the frame.

Yes Aircooled, what caught me out is that since I have had her those clips have never worked and you were able to push the roof up and down on its own.  In my defence, I had no idea they had now decided to work  :D
