Recommendations on Alarm

I am going to view at a Clipper. Unfortunately, the car is not fitted with an alarm.  Can any recommend an alarm and immobliser preferably together for a clipper?

I've heard of Clifford and Toad alarms. However, the total cost including fitting  is ?500. Is that too much? :dontknow:

My sportline cab has a clifford on it, very good alarms it was done about 4 years ago befor i got it and the reciept is for ?400 so the price you have is about right i would say, autowatch and toad systems are also very good and worht considering, whatever you chose just make sure its a decent company who fit it!!!

the olny problems you ever get with alarms is normally down to where and who fitted it! too many people cut corners to save time now days it seems!

think my toad immobiliser that I had fitted was fitted by a nob. So much so I had to rip it out.

going to get a new one, now I have found a top place near to me that loves VW golfs mk1s!

where are you? if in the north west i can sort you a full cat 1 auto watch alarm/immobiliser for around the ?300 mark depending on exact spec,
if not  expect to pay in region of ?300 to ?400 for cat 1 system most are good but in my opinion avoid cliffords

racer;  why avoid cliffords? I have been told by an Ex Toad installer that Toad are really poor, Cliffords are good he told me..

i am an auto electrician and also fit alarms, and also remove faulty ones, by far the worst are clifford, to be fair they are the older ones but they seem to be not only the most complicated to use but also the most unreliable, (false alarms, random not starting etc).
there are a lot of alarms around from different manufactures (just talking about cat 1 insurance approved alarms) all at different prices and i dont think that clifford are good value for money (very expensive because of all the features which you may or may not use or even want)
to me they seem very like the american product they are ie very flashy, lots of gadgets, all show (be honest do you really NEED remote starting?)
personnally i prefer a simple alarm (less to go wrong) from a manufacture with vast experience in a high car crime country (autowatch are south african)
i also would only use a reliable alarm so i get less call backs with problems. i have lost count of how many fitted with no problems and also 5 of my own cars have autowatch alarms
this is obviously only my opinion and experience and i bet i could find as many people who would praise cliffords as hate them, it is all personal prefence at the end of the day.and if you have a clifford and have no problems then great. but i would like to be sure that if i hear my alarm going off in the middle of the night then its not a false alarm.
by the way the ex toad installer wasnt trying to sell you a clifford by any chance, i know what the mark up on these are but thats a whole different thread!
