Putting into storage for a while - what do I need to do?

Decided to rest up the GTI for 6 months over winter, off to a barn soon. What sort of things do I need to think about/do?

Obviously disconnecting battery, but what else?

I will SORN it, will keep insurance going, but it will have no MOT in a few weeks so will my insurance still be valid? What should I tell insurance company?

What about covering? Barn is good and dry, but what do people recommend for covers? Couple of old blankets? Car cover?

Anything else I should consider?

Take the wheels off and put it on 4 jacks  :dontknow:  and leave handbrake off…

Give it a good clean inside with an anti bacterial cleaner and don't leave any food stuffs inside otherwise your interior may get eaten by mice as its going in a barn.
I wouldn't put a cover over it if its in a dry barn. A bit of air flow is good.
Any dust can easily be washed off when you recommission it.
Check it has got plenty of antifreeze in the cooling system and 50% diluted windscreen fluid in the washer bottle.
1/4 of a tank of petrol.
There are some gizmos on the market which keep moisture inside the car down. I would invest in one of those to. Should stop any mildew forming

You should leave your windows down an inch to combat mildew and let air circulate.
I bought a dozen large bags of silica gel which will remove any moisture  in the car.Place these in saucers or such like around the interior of the car,including the boot
cover seats front and rear with old sheets as the upholstery collects a lot of dust when stood for a while
Grease door catches and all hinges.
leave traps around the walls of the barn, to catch any rodents before they make a meal of your car.And check the traps periodically

And finally try to start the car every couple of weeks and let it run for 10 mins or so

Make sure theres nothing in the barn thats going to drop onto it!  ASeen this happen before - a horseshoe that was nailed to a rafter dropped onto his boot.  Not so lucky, eh?!

Good thing is it was pre-resto, but still made another dent that needed pulling.

Handbrake off, in gear, use some slave wheels (space savers are good), full tank of petrol if you are going to drain it afterwards otherwise 1/4 tank, some old sheets to prevent any fall out, turn the engine over by hand every so often, remove battery, loose seat covers, windows open an inch.

My cab. is put away every winter, personally i just drive it into the garage which i must say is very dry leave the hand brake off ,i will put a dust sheet over the roof(its white), disconnect the battery and attach my battery 'drip' feed charger,every month or so i will sit in the car and pump the brakes too make sure they don't sieze,if the weather is dry i will reconnect the battery start the engine it always fires first time (oh s**t!)  and just drive it up the road just to rotate the wheels too stop the tyres from flat spotting
