Powder coating a fuel filler neck?

I have a rusty fuel filler neck and I presume that it's from where the petrol pump nozzel goes in and scratching the inside. Then the dreaded rot begins. So I was thinking, when I buy a new one should I have it poweder coated to give it that much more protection? Could they get the coating all the way inside? Would the petrol effect the powder coating? And is it worth it?

I would not powder coat as may cause problems in the future if any of the coating comes loose and goes in the tank, a bit of paint/rust proofing on the outside is what I would do.

Ive always thought the rusting fuel filler neck is cause by the fact you get a lot of mud and other dirt around the outside of the neck at the top. This muck is continually wet or at best damp and causes the rot.

So you could provide a little extra protection to the outside of the filler neck.
Also when you clean the car try and get you hand and hose right inside the wing to keep clean.

But you could be right it may be scratching on the inside as well.

How much are stainless ones? Are they the same
as normal ones where I'd have to chop a bit off the end for my cabby?

Forget my last post, I've just been on crazyquiffs web site and they're £135 for a stainless cabby filler neck. It's a tricky choice, I know the stainless
one will be better. I may get one, depends on how
much funds I have next month :(

Not cheap - but would save so much hassle - i bought a mild steel one for about £30 quid, and put about 3 coats of hammerite on it befor i fitted it, but, would be tempted by stainless..
