sweet mate , this is my golf story lol …. well

went to see a golf off ebay in mid july … seen it … fell in love

the body was Excellent … perfect ….

engine was sound ( recon )

however ….

the car WAS originally a 1.5 … and the previous owner slammed the 1.8 GTI engine in … but kept the 1.5's electrics … which DONT WORK with the new engine lol , it had the old skool fuse box … ( bullets)

so … the following didnt work

petrol , temp , RPM

so a mate off here sent me the engine looms from the GTI

so i took out allllll the 1.5 electrics and started putting the new ones into place … but now im LOST

i know most of the plugs go into unique places on the blade fuse box …

but im lost … :P

really need help as im back at college on the 12th of september :(

and im sick of my girlfiends 900cc corsa … lol

I have only ever had bullet type fuses in my Mk1's ?!? I didnt know you could get blade fuse boxes for them…

The loom is pretty basic due to the k-jet being mechanical. Do you have any of it connected up? if so what is connected? one way to do it will be to fit it all to the chassis and see where wires reach to.

you will have one long wire with a plug on the end that connects to the cold start injector on the end of the manifold on the drivers side. one wire (I think it is red with yellow trace goes to the oil temperature switch on the oil take off on the front of the block. one wire (green?) which goes to the oil pressure switch on the end of the head (passenger side of car) You have the ignition control moduel which sits in the scuttle tray on the passenger side of the car with black and red wires these feed through the scuttle into the engine bay and has a black plastic connector fitted, this connects somewhere near the coil with a coresponding plug or posibly to the distributer as it is electric ignition. There is a green wire which comes from the distributer (condenser) which goes to the negative on the coil. You will have some wires which reach to the radiator, a (three pin?) plug which connects to the back of the fan motor and either a seperate plug or two seperate female terminals which conect to the temp switch on the bottom left of the radiator (passenger side of the car) You will have some more wires (three) which reach round the front of the engine to the alternator, one large female two normal size, these conect to the alternator. There may be a(two pin) plug which connects to the brake light switch although this might be part of your original loom.

That covers: ignition, alternator, radiator, fan, injectors.

See how you get on with that, I am just going from memory from when I took my Gti engine out and fitted the 20v T over a year ago! so some of it may not be 100% correct but it will get you started.

If you post up pics or what colour wires you have and connections that are fitted on the ends it will jog my memory a bit more!

Edit: just had a thought, do you have the gti fuel tank and pump and accumulator etc? you will need this to get it running as the K-Jet uses 6 bar fuel pressure and the fuel lines run up the passenger side of the engine bay where the carb fuel lines run up the drivers side, and the wires to the pump are in the car loom not the engine loom….

Geez I should be out at a pub or something on a Saturday night instead of watching James Bond and trying to remember what colour wires are and where they go etc!!

Hope this helps you, give me more info if you are still stuck
