Picking up my first Mk1 today!

Just on the 4 hour train journey to pick up
My first ever mk1!

Wanted a gti but for my budget I couldn't get a half decent one so I have opted for a 5 door 1.5gl (gold one in for sale section).

Can't wait to get it and start tinkering, just hope it survives the drive
Home!

Is it the one on borbet wheels? Good feeling driving one home and touch wood will be all good. Both mine have been :)

Not sue on that Richy!!!

I picked mine up from Hertforsdhire. Took an A frame to tow it back but it didn't fit properly.

My mate hopped into the Golf while I towed it 200 miles up the M1 and M6 - ON A NYLON STRAP!!!!    :redfaced:

NEVER AGAIN will I do that. The stress of looking for cops and watching as my mate did the nodding dog act behind me made me regret not doing it properly!!!!

Hope you enjoy your ride back in style.

Haha, I've stopped at the services for a quick pit stop.  Not use to a manual choke and carb engines so it's a bit odd and the first part of the journey has been fun but frightening too! Thinking I may look into engine swaps but it is a fun motor and pretty solid so a great base for something.

Unlucky mate, don't let it dishearten you though. Could just be a hose gone, happened on my mk2 as soon as i bought it so i know how it feels. My first mk1 spun a big end bearing the day i bought it.

Got car working fan switch buggered.  An hour later the car started juddering up hills and losing revs then stalled!? Aa out again, didn't really do much but managed to limp it home.
