Without meaning to be rude to seller it does seem to have a bit of a rust problem. very overpriced.

There was an entire thread on CGTI about the car, he'd bought it for a bargain price or something, and catalogued how he'd spent the money and got the MoT for it. Here's the thread:

http://www.clubgti.com…m/showthread.php?t=132776

He bought it for ?900, and is now trying to sell for ?3000. I asked him about his costs:

All I've paid for is 2 MOT's = ?80
Welding = ?70
Parts = ?70

if it was mint mint then yes the price would seem right but it needs a bit of work so there for not mint and the price should reflect i'd say its worth more like half the asking price

That hole near the rear right seatbelt mount will cost a lot more than ?75 to repair, if its done properly. Sure, you could pay someone ?75 to put a patch over it, but that would probably trap moisture/rust and make it worse in the long run. Its quite near the fuel lines too, so you'd have to remove the filler neck, tank, etc. Its all do-able but its not mint.

Why can't people just be honest when they sell cars, why is everyone so greedy???

everyone wants to earn a fortune for doing nothing! problem is when people see a genuinely rare car (eg, dub boys swallow tail) go for what its worth they assume thats what they can get for their reasonable condition car. someone else sees this miss priced car and the whole thing snowballs! before you know it every mk1 on ebay is going for ?7k!

I wouldnt give anymore than around 1k for a decent non restored running Gti anyway.
Quite simply with mk1 ownership of anything!! you know its gonna cost a few quid to iron out a few common problems, and put things right, so why pay for someone elses "bodges"
Id rather have an honest car, that is what it is, rust, trim missing etc and spend the money putting it right myself, thats half the fun of owning one 8)
Everyones after making a few ? :roll:  but the guys been a bit silly as he posted elsewhere (cgti) he only paid ?800 and has done virtually nowt to the car!!! garage finds are good, but leaving a car untouched in a damp garage for 4 years is NOT a recipe for a good car!
