Other drivers cutting you up in the Mk1?

Do you get other drivers cutting you up, seemingly because you are in a Mk1 Golf?  I seem to attract idiots who are intent on overtaking me…being impatient….beating me into a car park space….driving too close…over-taking or passing way too close and then cutting in front….etc. etc….  :x  :x

think thats just modern day driving in general im afraid, only thing i tend to get is people looking in amazement that a car as old as the mk1 still gets driven.

I hate people getting to close to the rear panel    Grrrrrr    

I had a fella cut me up yesterday in a VW bora, 2 lanes & he decides to just cut into mine, so i pipped him, then to my amazement the idiot carries on down the road at about 10 miles an hour sticking his finger up at me out the window, i wanted to ram his car, thing is im quite a placid driver & would rather give anyone the road than them hit my cat, ive remembered his reg no though

I drive 35K a year. The roads are full of knobs what ever you drive

Best just to let them go on their merry way and not let them get to you. This is what I've learnt over the years, you can never tell these days who you are giving the bird to.

this results in 2 things
1, you releive some of your stress
2, it really throws them when you do it.

I agree there is definitely a reaction to the mk1, normally +ve, but sometimes people, just assume it is an old car. They have no idea how quickly these things go.
I often have people tailgating me through a village as I stick to 30mph, knowing that when the NSL sign comes, I will be long gone!  

People generally don't get close to me in the Golf and if they do it's because they're looking at it. Whenever I do come across an idiot though I grab the low moral ground immediately and bellow at them, that's never failed me.

I get more people in big cars trying it on like audi a4's and a6's mondeo's just things that are just big and fat realy.  There is too many idiots tho on the road who like to cut you up or get up your rear but these drivers are usaly the ones that dont want to stop and have a litlle chat about there driving  :x .

i'v found that i seem to get alot of other soft tops driving like idoits round me, desperate to over take and show thier power and how nice they think thier car is!!! … the thing is wot they dont seem to realise is that there is only one true soft top on the road THE GOD FATHER of all convertables and the best looking convertable ever made and im sat in one THE MK1 GOLF CABRIO, yeah thats right m8 you had to act like an idiot to draw attention to your car mine just gets the attention and it got yours ha ha

I haven't noticed the cutting up, but i have noticed the stares from clio sport/ corsa sri/ pug gti drivers etc etc. They all love the Mk1 GTI.

I drove 70 odd mile on Monday and I had at least 3 incidents where I was cut up!

The dude who pulled out infront of me on the roundabout seemed very apologetic and knew he'd done wrong (not like a typical bloke, eh?) but everyone else…  

It may only be a 1.1 but once it's up to speed, I ain't stoppin'!

I do enjoy the looks on the driver of so called new hot hatches, with noise and speed mine generates highly amusing.

Totally understand what everyone has said !!! So many goons  that want to bully you on the road. My best trick is to just poodle along and when they think they can overtake you and nip back in front to make their turn off i just waste them and try to make them miss the turn off. I know a bit childish but same cars guilty all the time, BMW ( indicators optional extra i am sure ) and many in their REPmobiles !!!! Losers  :mrgreen:  :mrgreen:  :mrgreen:

Driving in Johannesburg is a flippin' nightmare -we have Mini bus taxis that drive around everywhere with about 20 people on board - these guys just stop dead in the middle of the road where ever they feel like!
The standard of driving here is shocking, and with no MOT, a lot of cars are falling to pieces/have no tail lights etc…it's quite something!
I get tailgated pretty much every day, any lane is an overtaking lane on the freeway, even the hard shoulder! (the road rules are supposed to be same as UK) and roundabouts! Jeez! Whoever get's there first has right of way! Of course everyone thinks they got there first, so lot's of road rage there!
When I camw home to the UK in Jan, it was a massive sigh of releif, the standard of driving was tons better!
