OEM Suppliers.

As with most manufacturers, VW dont actually make a lot of the parts that fit their cars, so where are they sourced?

Some bits are obvious, such as the carburation or Injection systems, distributors, lights, brakes, maybe even the shocks, but what about other stuff, like Trim, steering wheels etc.

If anyone knows, it could be helpful for obtaining info from the original source, or for refurbing parts.

Febi-Bilstein - Suspension and bushes

Hella - Lights and glass

Ronal - Wheels

Bosch - Electrical components

LuK - Clutches and possibly more?

Goetze - Pistons/rings


Can't think of where the various bearings are from :?

try
mahle filter/mann hummel for the filters
victor rienz for all off the gaskets
mahle pistons
mahle cylinder heads
exhausts bosal
injectors bosch
clutch some could be sachs
shockers  some could be sachs boge

At the very least, if they have to go to non-genuine sources, the can get the OEM supplier part, rather than 'ho flung dung'

I stayed up late last night trying to find the others, maybe TRW for steering wheels?

They have a plant in Germany.

We have a p38 Volvo in at the moment, and I was surprised to find the bodies were made by SC in Coventry, then exported to Sweden!

just goes to show…

I've joined the Spanish forum now, so I'll have a root around there, see if any one knows, (although there are much fewer members online I believe- around 350 mk1, but thats 'Spanish speaking countries)

My German is not very good, but may join there as well. There bound to have someone ex-vw?

Cool! My mate works at Ford designing bottom end rotating assemblies and he has dealt with Mahle regarding crank bearings 8)


Do they still supply VW with those parts you listed then?

Hey, Carling, got any contacts there still? Maybe they have the moulds for the steering wheels kicking around still!
