Number Plate in Windscreen...
Is it legal?
Would I be letting myself in for a world of pain by removing the corroded plate brackets?
Are goons in Paxo's gonna start wavin at me (Cos I really don't want that!)?

The metal holder is easy to remove though.

Don't think it's a viable long term solution though, unless you can convince the police that you are permenantly driving to Halfords. :dontknow:
Incedently the stolen number plates were then used in a robbery, then the car was burned out. This led to an interesting discussion with the police at 8.30am in the morning on my doorstep. With them insisting they had my burned out car at the yard and me insisting it was sitting safe and well outside my mum's house.
Sorry this is not a very helpfull input, but it reminded me of this storey and thought it was a good one to share.

To add to it,my number plate is black (pre 73 plate) and is not legal no matter where it is positioned
so basically yes it may well be illegal but i think it will all depend on the officer looking at it and whether he is having a good day or not

if it is not reflective - ie. you have a sticker of your number plate on your bonnet or windscreen it is illegal as it would not reflect for speed cameras or for other people to read. The number plate has to be clearly displayed in the front of your car.
Sometimes if you put it on the dash and say it fell off you might get away with it but if you purposly mount it there you will get a fine and 3 points.
i wouldnt bother. I prefer mine mounted to the front of the car but take off the old rusty mounting bracket. Position the plate just under the front bumper and mount it with sticking fixers onto the front panel.
Looks really smart.

Right if you get caught with black and silver plates or plates not secured to the vehicle Police will
1. give you a ?30 ticket no points
2. give you notice to correct the fault within 14 days. if you fail to do this then it's NIP time.
3. give you a warning as they are having a good day

Next question: long rectangle plates or square ones?

nothing is wrong with the bracket if yours is good but they always rust and the arms snap!
