sorry.
you'll have to guage your price based on the quality of what's infront of you. There is no correct price. Just pay what you want. what its worth to you.
I bought mine knowing what was wrong and how much it would cost to fix X problems.
Good luck.

trouble is there's loads available at the mo and rpices are going from not a lot to around 2.5k depending on quality, I'd agree to buy with the seller, but on the condition you can run it through an mot first and find out whats needed to get 12 months ticket on it…

Mine cost me about ?1600 and is a fairly presentable example, had a couple of known cosmetic issues when I got it, but has also needed a fair amount of mechanical attention to the tune of around ?700, plus other bits and bobs.
I still feel it was a decent price for the car, and reflected a solid and fairly presentable, well looked after example.
Basically I don't really think that ?500 can reflect the same, especially without an MOT. If the car "Should pass an MOT" then why hasn't it done so already? It costs pennies and adds a lot of value to the car. Hence the alarm bells.
That said I'm only basing this on my personal experience so granted many other people have probalby got cheap minters. If you think it's worth it then go for it, but I wouldn't touch the thing without an MOT.

12 months M.O.T, 12 months tax. Less than100,000 miles on clock and as part of the deal he had fitted a thatcham Alarm/immobiliser as required by my insurance company. Engine rock solid.
But it leaked and the headliner was filthy and ripped (didn't notice as hood was down) the interior was ditched filthy, smelt, Dash vynil had lifted around vent holes (common fault), there is a piece cut out of the knee bar cover??? the Carpet was all over the place, the underlay was missing, Drivers bolster had worn and sagged, luckily not worn through material, (common Fault) there is a metal anti theft device bolted to the floor and the horn kept sounding when I turned a Corner
So far have repalced the Scraper seals all round, B pillar seals, new chrome trim around windscreen, repaired L.C.D and clocks, Dodgy horn, put in new vent trims. fully aqua vacced the seats (got a George hoover, brilliant)
To Do next year new hood/headliner, got most parts.
Sort out interior got a spare set of seats etc.
still need to sort knee bar cover and carpet.
So ?500.00 Could be a good buy. Try and get them lower if you can, as most older cars need some money spending on them. Obviously expensive stuff to repair can be a bargaining tool mind.
Good luck

some people just see them as an old car with a big engine.
i paid ?300 for mine a drove it 50miles home. it's just a little bit scruffy round the edges.
but i done my research and found out that it's had a full rebuild in the past. it's an 83 with a 1.8 5speed and electric windows etc.
the thing that swung iti for me is that there was a little green vw man in the rear window, and i knew it was a sign of an enthusiast.
the man i brought it off paid ?2000 for her 1 year earlier.
he wanted quick sale due to no money and she was being vadalised.
so i paid what he wanted.
none of his friends wanted it cos he used to thrashit around a lot.
when i got it home i found the rev limiter still in place,
so couldn't be that bad. :dontknow:
?500? i say but it
