My mk1 missery

The sun is shining but where is my cabriolet ……………… In the garage!
My big end has gone after 2 days of joyful motering!! my car has been broken for 2.5 months and finally i got it back and this happens, I am a student as it is working all the hours of the day in summer to pay for my course, car and to generally live. now I have to fork out to get this fixed It will cost more to fix this problem than to buy a new engine…….. so thats what im doing, buying a new engine but i sometimes think why do i bother!!??
So if anyone has a decent engine to fit into a mk1 golf 1.8 8v cabriolet give us a reply!
 :(   :banghead:

Ahhh, happy days then. Look at it as an opportunity to clean and sort your bay out and fit a spanking engine.

Good luck!

Is it definitely the engine though, or is it something to do with the clutch?

I'd say, go with 2L if your not bother by insurance costs, other wise look for a 1800 bottom-end, its not a difficult swap, but an expensive one though…
Sorry to hear about the loss.

id expect to pay ?50 - ?100 for a decent engine

Port and polish isnt worth bugger all unless its been flowed, could even loose power.

Sounds expensive to me dude! ?200 max!!

Yeah ?370 sounds too pricey to me too. Looks like they saw you coming. Vernier pulley, unless the cam has been set up properly and is an aftermarket one (and a good one at that), combined with mods to see it breathing better (BVH at a minimum), won't do much either. Although its nice to have a clean engine, ?10 of Gunk from Halfords goes a long way….
