I'm from Swansea, but not a mobile mechanic…

What seems to be the problem?
What model/engine is your golf?

Yeah seems to be, she catches for a few seconds then dies as soon as your foot is off the accelerator. That's if she catches at all, I just can't get a garage to take her…all keep saying their too busy so was hoping to find someone who would help. She is a lovely car and I don't want to leave her much longer. She is a 1.8 gti I have just ordered some new starter cables, I am trying to change everything that I can so she spends less time in a garage as I am going to lose my job in a year so have to keep what cost I can dwn by doing stuff myself….
 :dontknow:  :)

OK - so you have replaced tank/neck and cleaned the injectors. Was the neck rotten, I.E. it had lots of holes in it or was it just a little rusty?

What about fuel pumps? did you check replace them at all? Also the fuel filters?

If the filler neck had holes in it, then road grime off the wheels that gets spat up inside the rear arch can get into the tank. this crap will clog up the filters starving the engine of fuel.
I had the same prob on mine years ago and it turned out to be a blocked filter. On the tin tops, the fuel pump itself has a small filter the size of a thimble on the inlet side. This was full of muck and sand. Cleaned it out and it ran like a dream.
Not sure if the cabby pumps have the same - I know there are two pumps on your car, so the set-up is a bit different.

I know the tank was changed but as for the neck I think this was fine and not needed to be changed, it has had a new in tank pump and a new filter has been fitted, there is petrol getting to the filter coz we turned her over then undid the filter and fuel poured out…there is some coming through the injectors as you can smell it but obviously not enough. It's probably something really simple but not being a mechanic doesn't help lol.

I bought the car off a colleague and she said it was a simple thing to get her running, up to the day she went in the garage she was an everyday car so I believed her…
