My advice - don't bother getting a mk2 to break for parts for Mk1. Some parts fit, but most of these are the wrong parts, and most others don't fit. For example, the engines fit but have subtle differences, if you are happy to sort the differences out then fair enough. The front seats fit, but will be a different fabric. Wheels fit. But not much else, apart from general stuff like bulbs, etc.

Depends if you have a tin top or a cabriolet as well my late cabby has more parts in common with a mk2 than an early mk1 golf tin top like paul say depends what specific parts and i agree i wouldnt bother flEabay

well ive got a 1990 cabrio so a bit unsure of what to get
i really could do with a car to take parts off

ive got a really solid shell with an engine but not much else as it look like someone has used the car for spares for another

so which car is better to get for spares for a cabby ?

another cabby of the same engine type and year.

Correct! stay clear of a mk2 if you need lots of parts buy another cabby the later cabs have more bells and whistles but good luck finding a chap one

Correct and yeah pretty simple as long as you are ok at that kinda thing some modifying involved but nothing major.

There's different servos on different models of Mk2. The only one which is an 'upgrade' would be the 16V GTI, which is 9" servo and 22mm master cylinder.

Yea it's the 16v i had in mind, i dint know the spec though, is there much adjustment invoved, i'm still far off that point but thought i'd make a head start, is there any other mod's off the 16v that would be worth thinkin about.

You mean apart from the engine and brake servo? No.

Rear discs are a moot point - not really worth the hassle?
