mk1cabby that does not exsist

i have recently got a 1983 cabby master cylinder needs replacing but vw dealer put reg number in and said it does not exsist aparently they never made a 1.8 gti cabby until 1984 has anyone come across this or is the dealer being an idiot wanted genuine but they can not help  :?

I've got an 83 gti cabby, so unless that doesn't exist either they've made a mistake!!

bla bla bla he continued to tell me i was wrong so i said
'FINE!!! what your name, got his name and went down there you should of seen his face when i pulled up in my cab with a 'k' plate on and the fact I was half his age and he knew FA about mk1 golfs or cars in general tbh

And drove off I haven't been back since!

When you say its an 83 is that by reg or chassis number, whats the 10th letter of your chassis number??

Technically, he is correct. For Model Year 1983 the 1.8 DX was still known as the GLi. It became the GTi for Model Year 1984. Just ask for a master cylinder for a DX engine and all is good.
