how much difference between a van and car, apart from engine? much, if any, heavier?

Depends how many power tools are in the back.

assuming it's night time and all the tools are safely tucked up under the stairs next to the dog

there was 1 on ebay a couple of weeks ago, non runner ?480 it went for

seriously debating selling the campaign and getting a mk1 van. not sure if they had leaf springs or weighed 3000kg more or what.

vans are virtually identical except uprated suspension for the extra weight and the are supposed to have black vinyl seats that were only fitted in mk1 vans
