Mk1 value advice

Hi Guys,

Im new here so hi to everyone firstly!

I was hoping for some advice regarding my mk1 gti which i have had  for approx 9 years.

Unfortunatly its been off the road covered for several years now and needs some work……i just cant justify keeping it as i have several other cars too and cannot or will not scrap the car as its worth way too much (to me anyway) to do that!

Here is a rough breakdown of the car,

Engine hasnt run for about 3yrs (1600 block done 142k miles), i took the starter off as i needed it for my cabrio i was selling, i know i shouldnt have taken it but i needed one quick and i just didnt get round to replacing it as it was off the road. It was fully runnning without issue though.

Bodywork repair to front inner arches as you can see in the pic where i have cut the major rust out, front panel repair, repair to A pillars again you can see where i have cut the worst stuff out, rear arch repair. Overall the paintwork really requires a respray now as although the car has been covered it has suffered a little. Its also not got a sunroof fitted. Original 14" alloys.

Suspension/ Brakes koni adjustable inserts with koni shocks, otherwise standard.

Interior Original interior is in remarkably good condition, it needs a clean as they are a little bit mouldy though not badly at all (they arent damaged and dont have any major bolster wear), the rear parcel shelf is a little warped though might straighten out if it was put under something heavy. Spare wheel is also presen in the boot.

Overall its an original car, it has seen better days but its no where near as bad as lots of mk1s i have see. It had no major problems when i took it off the road, although due to the fact its been sat for a few yrs, it will need a complete overhaul i would imagine.

Now do i sell as is, and if so can you guys give me an idea what its worth please, or do i do the bodywork myself (as i have done on several of my cars)  and have it resprayed then get the engine running again and bring it back to its former glory to sell…

what do you think??

thanks

Take it to the scrap yard and put the car down.

hi, i will try and post some now, though they arent great.

I guess if its only worth a few hundred quid as is i will do the work myself as its not that bad, and its an original car which i hope would be worth more when its done.

Can i add attachments as i dont have an account for any pic hosting?

Does anyone have any idea, was really hoping for at least one response as to whether anyone thinks its worth saving and what it would be worth?!?

Always worth saving.

I have no idea what it's worth though. And you really can't keep it or sell it on here, then I'm sure if you break it most of it will go to a loving home…

yes it would be a crying shame to scrap the car, thats why i havent, i just am not having much interest in it and can only keep it so long.

If i was to restore, would it be worth more restoring it completely stock (1.6gti) or would it be worth fitting a 16v lump or a 20vt lump?

Im kinda thinking a stock original mk1 gti may be worth more…..
