Mk1 value?

Hi, I currently own a 1982 mk1. It's in good condition. With loads of chrome. Bumpers, window seals, side strips etc. mint interior. body works ok for its age with just a few bubbles. however it's a German import and it has a low mileage mk2 engine conversion (on webers and had lots of work, but obviously not original) anyway, thinking of selling, looking at current prices I'd say it would go for about 2-2.5k. My good friend has a barn and has said I'm welcome to stick it in there n throw a dust sheet over her for 5 years. basically wanted to know if mk1 prices are expected to rise the older they get???? especially as mine isn't completely 'mk1 original' Because of the engine and chrome? Any feed back appreciated. Thanks

Do you need the money ? Set a figure that you want for it and put it up for sale, you will soon know if it is too high !!

Let me get my crystal ball out :-)

Classic car prices are like share prices, they can go up and down and there is no guarantee what the future might bring.

Cars were designed to be driven, laying up for 5 years will not do it any good.

Cheers,
Ade

Simple really, sell it or don't. If you don't drive it and you wouldn't mind an extra 2k in the bank then sell. If you want to throw a blanket over it in a barn and see what it will fetch in 5-10 years (after mother nature has taken it's toll on it) then do that. Personally i cant see it going the way of campers and the like but who knows. If you decide to go the barn way let us know in 5 years or so what the outcome is, and the condition of the car  :D

Yeah, when I say campers. I'm not expecting them to be worth 20k so maybe a bad example lol. Maybe mk1 escorts. They seem to go for about 10k don't they? and also when I say 'barn' he would prob be offended at that. haha. More of a warehouse. (nice place to keep a car) but like you say, it should be simple! but getting rid of your mk1 golf……. Never going to be easy is it? :-(

don't lay it up it will only let the metal worms move in…by keeping it running you will keep it in better condition.
