mk1 small rear light model

just bought another mk 1 and gonna start breaking it soon, it is the one with the small rear lights on a v reg so 1980 and is 1.6 gti but it has an odd interior and an odd dash nothing like my other 1983 y plate golf, are they different or has someone put a new interior and dash in at some point, ths dash has a guage centre console and the instrument cluster is 2 guages withe the dash moulded in between the two, it has no mfa computer, no golf ball gear nob although i'm pretty sure this has been changed.

hope some one can shed some light

Cheers luke

It's a series one so will have a series one dash board with the "Madona Bra" instruments, series one seats with the "rounded top" head restraints and if it's got the auxiluary guages in the centr console, it'll only have two.

Unless it's totally rotten, it might be better not to break it but find someone who will take the car on as a whole.

nnnnnnnnoooooooooooo - call yourself an enthusiast!!????

dont break a series 1 gti! ive been looking for a 1.6 gti series 1 for ages and ages.
unless it has literally been ran over by a monster truck dont you dare break it!
im sorry to be brutal here but wot on earth possesses people to aquire these very rare and much sought after vehicles and pull them apart?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

it is fairly rotten and leaves alot to be desired it has also had the 1.6 engine replace for a 1.8 gti from the later mk 1, but i do have the original engine with an oil pump gone, don't know what damage has happened to the engine, what is one worth?

OMG- stop with the pics! i want the car!

why does it say in your original post and your sig that its a 1.6 when it fact you are now saying it is a 1.8?! does it have a 4 speed or a 5 speed box?
how rotten is rotten? most people looking for one of these would be prepared to remove every single panel and weld the thing up - i certainly would.

can we please have pics/ more detail?

seriously, no matter what kinda state its in, you cant break it.

here is one on ebay at the mo- personally i think its overpriced as it doesnt have the checked seats and has a 1.8 engine and retro fit sunroof but saying that, at least the guy realises its a series 1 and has advertised it as a whole.

it doesnt matter how much you paid for the thing, you could at least give some sort of indication as to how much you would want for it because i am jobless and completely skint, i literally cant afford my rent this month but i would go to every persons house i know and rummage behind their sofa for coppers to be able to buy this car! I would sell my right arm on the black market- anything! (well not absolutely anything, before any rude comments are made!)

I suggest you post up some pics and some more info (do not get rid of that 1.6 engine) and give some sort of an indication as to how much you want for it.

To be honest tho, why take on a series 1 gti that needs a hell of alot of work, if you dont even have the time for the first one? At least this time we may of saved it from a fate worse than death but this is the trouble with people that dont realise what they have, this is why they are becoming rarer and rarer as we speak.

Thank god you posted on here is all i can say and i bloody hope it finds a good home.

well when i originally bought it i bought it as it wasn't stated on the net that it was series one and for me i just wanted a fairly knackered mk1 that wasn't worth repairing to use for parts for my golf to help to get one very nice motor instead of one moderate and one past it motor, i will get some pics and post them up tomorrow, would rather  let some one have it to restore than tear it apart as alot of the parts i wanted i cxan't use as it isn't the same
