Mk1 = Puddle Master!

Driving home through some serious puddles this evening (1 was almost a mile long), I passed a Mk5 R32, a brand new 5-series, a couple of Mercs, and a few other cheaper cars all pulled up after they'd conked out driving through deep water.

But my Mk1 kept on going, even when I could hear the water lapping at the floorpan!!!

I felt rather smug I have to say  :lol:

it was that you were floating across the water because the mk1 weighs nothing

Excellent! Less wizardry = less to go wrong! Either that or they just couldn't drive! :wink:

That happened to me too that day :lol:

My tyres aren't any good at all. I think Continentals are supposed to be very good in the wet, although the Toyos I've got on my daily (pug) are very good in the wet too…

If you want to avoid a tyre in the wet don't buy P6000, they are rubbish.

Yup, P6000's are properly poo in the wet.

Last time I went out in a car with p6k's in the wet, the front end was all over the place. Not so fun 8O (well, slightly anyway :wink: )

Yradave says relax.

Me too.  Had been going at 85mph towards Amsterdam in March through fierce rain.  It got suddenly worse so I slowed to 60mph but the weight of all the stuff in the back, and the bike on the rack on the back of the car must've lifted the front a little - so scary!  I was moving the wheel without the car turning :O

mine are toyos, they are alright on wet roads, but when there is a slight depth they just like to slide

My brother has worked for Merc and BMW dealers and whenever there is heavy rain they are inundated with idiots who have killed their cars (often electrics or water in the engine) driving through deep water :lol: . One owner even claimed that he only doing what he had seen in a BMW promo pic :banghead:
