Mk1 GTi Info please

Right guys, next project (after my mk3 anni) will be a mk1 Gti.

Ive had a few mk1 projects but they turned to rubbish after finding horrible rot everywhere!

Anyways, i want to restore a mk1 Gti (1800cc) back to its former glory. Like its just come out the showroom in the 80s.

SO im after as much possible info of the mk1 GTi in its original state and as many photos, scans of original brochures etc. I want every last detail to be spot on so the more pics and info the better.

Thanks in advance guys!

Looking for loads and loads of detailed info, in everything. ANything you can think of, even down to the exact colour of the wheels.

Stuff like…

Colour the wishbones were after the factory build, how they were finished, same with engine block, and even down to the engine mount bolts.

Gonna go really anal with this.

Cant really give you an exact model as i havent got the thing yet, but it'll prob be a gti campaign, no optional extras, just bog standard.

You are asking for a lot, you are either going to have to find production photos, brochure photos, press photos, etc. They will have to be photos from the exact year too as there were thousands of changes over the years. This is what I have done with my resto project.

Depending on what wheel you are talking about, the correct silver is L091.

Best idea would be to have a look through other people's restorations, and look at a range of different cars which are stock, to see if there's a common consensus on what is exactly correct for the year, etc. Over the years there's been a handful of very detailed and thorough restorations which have been done (well) to concours condition so looking at show photos, and getting to events and having a chat with the owners, etc would also be a good idea.

Don't forget VW Dealers themselves - you'll end up spending a lot of time and money in their parts department, the parts supply situation isn't that bad and there's a reassurance you're getting the right stuff when you go there.
