Mk1 Golf Gli Cab

Does anyone know what the difference is between the GLi Cab and the GTI Cab, as I have just bought a 1984 GLi with BBS body kit and can't really see the difference as the motor is the same 1800 DX as in the GTI and it has MFA, GTI Alloys, Twin Headlamps etc.

I was waiting for someone to say this! Well done Wooders, didn't let us down.

They have the same mechanicals but different trim. Basically, the GTI cabby is a little bit more sporty than the GLi. I don't know the exact differences, hence why I didn't post earlier. Maybe someone who does know the specific differences, can reply too.

According to the 1985 Golf convertible sales brochure…..
(1984 may be different admittedly)

Long list of standard features on the GL & GTi (the same)
and underneath is says

Additional on GTi (External)

Red trim around grille
Air blade on Drivers wiper
Alloy sports wheels

Additions on the GTi (internal)

Front sports seats
Multi function computer (may be on option on GL/ GLi?)

Brakes are also vented on the GTI

Cheers

Thanks for that.
Mine has all of those listed, even vented discs!
Only thing it does not have is the Red trim around the front grill.
Apparently it was a special BBS edition and the first owner actually collected it from the Karman factory in Osnabruk, it even has the Karmen factory stamp in the service book! and a German Log book.
The owner brought it back to the UK, then in 1987 brought it out here to New Zealand.
Pretty comprehensive History really, but I just can't see much difference from a GTI.

Ah, so it's a European GLi? In that case, VW called them GLis in Europe to differentiate between hard top GTis (I would think the roof would actually be an easier to way to differentiate…). They share all the same mechanical attributes of a GTi. At least, that's what my mechanic reckons…

The main difference between an '83 GLi (1.8 with MFA) and '84 GTi are the seats (non-sports seats in the GLi and sports seats in the GTi).

'84 GTis came with chrome grille trim, chrome side trim and 9 spoke alloys as did '83 GLis. Later GTis dropped the chrome trim and the 9 spoke alloys were replaced by 14" Avus.
