Thanks a lot matey :)

Yeah, It's the first time i've been to Elsecar so thought it was alright. The quality of cars there was pretty good however it was more of just the usual show cars etc.

I agree about the autojumble part as that's something I always prefer as well.

Bit of a random question but I don't suppose you know where I could get one of those "Dubweiser" rear strut braces do you? I'm not sure if it was actually a Dubweiser brace, or if that was just a sticker on it.

The fat bar ones with the two "U" Clamps either end that go around the tops of the struts?

That's if you even know what i'm on about haha :p

Any help appreciated!

Cheers.

Yeah, I loved that yellow mark 1 and the red derby!

I'll have to post up on here and have a good look about!

What engine you currently running?

I'm not massively clued up really on Carbs etc, apart from I know that these are what were around before the introduction of fuel-injection systems.

I've heard mixed reviews about them however.

Some people have said they're costly but worth it and can lead to some decent power gains but at the same time others have said they're too costly for what you get, sound nice but are a pain to fettle so they run just right, and at the same time they drink a lot of juice!

So it might be better off looking at spending it on a completely new power lump? Spending that little bit more but in return getting a much more worthwhile return possibly?

No doubt someone will come along and correct me who's clued up on their carbs etc.

It's something I do want to learn a bit more about though, the differences and perks between carbs, fuel injection etc.

its a 1.8 gti, ive put some super fours in and its kent cammed. but i dont think its particularly quick. ive messed about with the mixture (it was idling at 1500 when i got it) and suppose that could be a reason why. the guy wanted £200 for them, which is a bit much when like you say you could drop a bigger engine in. Im no expert lol, but ive always tinkered with my cars and you just pick stuff up i suppose its half the fun. i think i might get it tuned properly to see if that helps.

Right I see, well yeah I'm all for learning the hands on way however there's a big difference in outcome from doing it yourself or getting a professional to look at it.

I reckon your best option with it would be to get it on a rolling road and get it set up properly, from the sounds of things you should at least see a half decent return on power once it's set up properly mate!

My mate had a classic mini as his first car, it was off the road for about 6 months and not running right no matter what he tried (he's really clued up on cars etc so had half an idea about what he was doing) but even still he took it to a rolling road specialist and got them to sort it out, found that it was on the wrong plugs etc and once they'd finished with it, it left the RR running twice the amount of power it went in there with!

Now i'm not saying you're gonna get double the power you got now, but I think you get the drift that you'll defo see a worthwhile return on what you've already done with it etc.

Where abouts are you based anyway?

I'm in manchester and there's a decent RR specialist in Bury that i'm gonna be taking mine down to once i've got everything on it that I plan to have on it.

Peace!

I always struggle with stickers, i have none in the corrado ,1 in the golf and thats an old owners club sticker from 2007! I've always felt that to many stickers can ruin a nice car,and honestly, look like your trying to hard. Both of those however look pretty decent and i would probably have the golf sticker.
