GLi`s were available with 1.6 & 1.8 (basically pre GTi cabriolets).
Although there were not too many 1.8`s made as far as I
can tell, as the GTi was introduces soon after.

Pre 1983 they were 1.6, and in 83 the 1.8 was introduced according
to my brochures.

1.6 spec: top speed 106 mph 0-60  10.2 seconds 110 bhp.
1.8 spec: top speed 108 mph 0-60  9.0   seconds 112 bhp

Both 1982 & 1983 models were available in 6 different colours
with the introduction of green & yellow in 1983.

Although I have a 1983 one, and my trim looks different to the one in
the brochures, which does not have "Full" rear plastic arches or
9 spoke alloys which were fitted to mine when it was built, VW did this
a lot, by developing the model/ fitting more equipment and not altering
the sales literature etc….

Hope this helps.

The photos are of a GLS with the alloys "touched in". They didn't change the photos from the 1979 brochure. They forgot to add the full arch extensions though!
